BDS- Blue Diamond Society
The Blue Diamond Society ( BDS ) is an LGBT rights organization in Nepal. It was founded in 2001 to promote changes in existing laws against homosexuality. And to advocate for the rights of Nepal’s marginalized gays, transsexuals, and other sexual minorities.
The Blue Diamond Society also aims to educate Nepali society on proper sexual health, to advocate with local governments for gay minorities. To encourage the artistic expression of LGBTQ + youth, and to document violence against homosexuals of Nepal. Another contribution to Nepal’s LGBTQ + communities is to provide care, advice, and services to victims of HIV / AIDS.
The Blue Diamond Society is currently headed by Executive Director Manisha Dhakal. And was founded and directed until 2013 by Sunil Babu Pant, the first gay legislator in the history of Nepal and one of the twenty-nine experts at the meeting of the Yogyakarta Principles.
One of the achievements of the Blue Diamond Society occurred in when Sunil Babu Pant and fellow human rights activists filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court of Nepal. That led to a court ruling ordering the government to repeal all laws. Laws that explicitly discriminate against members of the LGBT community. The Court also ordered the Government to draw up laws to legally recognize same-sex marriage.
The Blue Diamond Society currently has more than thirty-five offices throughout Nepal. The head office is located in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu.
As a community-based organization, the Blue Diamond Society aims to educate and help with sexual health, human rights and the well-being of gender and sexual minorities in Nepal. The visions of society are:
- To create a society that respects and values each of the sexual and gender minorities.
- To create a society in which each person of a sexual and gender minority can have the same rights and the same dignity of heterosexual people.
- To create a society in which all sexual and gender minorities have hope and equal opportunities.
LGBTQ + Achievements in Nepal: All with the encouragement or assistance of the Blue Diamond Society
During the Supreme Court ruling in 2007 that helped cause BDS, the Nepalese government decided to grant the basic human rights of sexual and gender minorities in Nepal.
The Blue Diamond Society has expanded its offices to thirty-five cities throughout Nepal. BDS worked with local governments and the Supreme Court so that the Electoral Commission of Nepal and the local census forms offer a third gender option in addition to male and female.
A transgender woman, Bishnu Adhikari, received the letter of citizenship and full identification as governed by the Supreme Court of Nepal in 2007. This has encouraged other transsexual citizens to demand correct legal identification with their correct gender. Continuous pressure groups, delegations and seedling programs from the local to the national level have been carried out by the Blue Diamond Society.
More than fifteen community-based organizations registered their offices in their locality and became members of the Federation of Sexual and Gender Minorities in Nepal.
The government of Nepal allocates 3 million rupees for the development and advancement of LGBTQ + people. The Federation of Sexual and Gender Minorities in Nepal was established to strengthen networks among community organizations working in different parts of Nepal. This is an umbrella organization under which the Blue Diamond Society is also a member.
Nai Prakashan, one of the most prestigious houses of literary publications, established a prize to recognize the most prominent LGBTQ + writers.
A definition for the term LGBT was added to social science textbooks for government Bachelor and Teacher curricula. Nepal created a forum for LGBTQ + youth, which offers professional help and educational support. BDS created and now supports pink tourism, where LGBTQ Nepal + information, seminars, and activities are offered to tourists.
In February 2016, with the support of UNDP and other organizations, the Blue Diamond Society hosted the first national meeting on intersex issues.
Numbers of people who have benefitted from society

BDS = Binary Data Set
Binary, from the Latin binarĭus, is something formed by a pair of components or units. It is possible to apply this adjective to various concepts. Binary data is data which unit can take only two possible states, labeled 0 and 1 according to the binary numbering system and the Boolean algebra.
Binary data occurs in many different technical and scientific fields, where they can be called with different names:
- Bit (binary digit) in computing,
- Value of truth in mathematical logic and related domains.
- The binary variable in statistics.
Specifically, we can specify a little more the etymological origin of the binary word by stating that it is composed of two clearly differentiated Latin parts. The word bini that equals two by two and the suffix – Arian that can be translated as relative to.
The binary system is the one that numbers using only zeros ( 0 ) and ones ( 1 ). This means that, within the framework of these systems, any number can be expressed from these numbers. This system is used by computers, which work with a pair of different voltages and which attribute the 0 to the off and the 1 to the ignition.
It should be noted that all the numbers in the decimal system can be converted to the binary system. It is necessary to divide the figure of the decimal system by 2, obtaining an integer result that will be divided again by 2 successively until the dividend is less than the divisor (that is, 2 ). Finally, you have to order the remains, starting with the last and ending in the first.
In this sense, we have to highlight the existence of what is known as binary converters. These are responsible for converting the binary number that we give in it is corresponding from the decimal or hexadecimal point of view. Thus, for example, if we set the number 10 to binary, it will give us the result of 2 as both decimal and hexadecimal.
It is known as binary code, on the other hand, to the order processing system of a computer that uses the binary system. The binary code allows encoding strings of characters or strings of bits.
The binary file, therefore, is the digital document whose data is encoded in binary code so that it can be processed by a computer. A digital video, a photograph or the executable file that contains software are binary files.
And all this without forgetting that we also find what is called a binary tree. This term is used in the field of computing to define that data structure in which any of the nodes or elements that compose it tend to have two children. In turn, although there may also be those that do not have any.
Outside of computer science, the concept of binary data also has numerous uses. The binary star is that star system formed by a pair of stars that orbit mutually around a center of masses in common. The binary compass is a two-beat musical compass.
In statistics, binary data is a type of statistical data described by binary variables, which can only take two possible values. The binary data represent the results of the Bernoulli trials, statistical experiments with only two possible outcomes.
It’s a categorical data types, which generally represents experiments with a fixed number of possible outcomes. The two values in a binary variable, despite being numerically coded as 0 and 1. They are generally considered to exist on a nominal scale, which means that they represent qualitatively different values that can not be compared numerically.
In this sense, too, the binary data are similar to the categorical but different from the counting data or other types of numerical data. Often, binary data is used to represent one of the two conceptually opposite values, for example:
- The result of an experiment (success or failure)
- The answer to a yes-no question (yes or no)
- Presence or absence of any characteristic (is present or is not present)
- The truth or falsity of a proposition ( true or false, right or wrong).
